Generators and Off Grid are powering on with harnessing the sun and progressing us all to carbon neutral. We’re pleased to support their work by providing bespoke solar trusses and solar equipment huts.
As an industry we are struggling with moving to “green steel”, steel that is carbon neutral.
It takes a huge amount energy to transform iron ore into the steel used to fabricate structures. Currently that’s mostly coal and coke with a bit of gas and electricity thrown in. Various improvements to production processes have achieved savings but the heavy lifting will come from power sources such as hydrogen, which if “green” itself will help achieve the “greening” of steel.
There’s also the small matter of the freight of the product back and forth across the country as most of the iron ore is dug up here in Western Australia, while the smelters are in the eastern states.
One of our major supplies, BlueScope, is leading the way in research to significantly reduce green house gas outputs as well as attempting a green steel product.
In the meantime we’re pleased to support the roll out of solar across the north of the state with Generators and Off Grid.
