So Tyson, you’ve finished your TAFE blocks and we’re looking at signing you off soon, where did it all begin?
Starting with my old man in the shed, building cages for our hunting dogs and moved onto water tanks and then got a job at Aqua Steel Industries in Naracoorte and that’s when I got underway.
Been around a little bit, this is my fourth employer in my apprenticeship journey.
We’re really lucky to get you at the end stage of your apprenticeship as you have a great range of skills and experience that we can see really contribute to your effectiveness on the workshop floor. How have you found KMPL?
It’s been beautiful being here because it’s like family rather than just being a number in a place. The support of the guys and Brock has been great.
Pretty soon you’ll get signed off and recognised as a tradesman and we’re looking forward to you continuing with us, but where do you see your journey taking you?
Not sure at the moment, but I’d like to be the supervisor at KMPL one day and run the workshop – then see where I’m at. Everyone says not to go to the mines but I’ll try that one day maybe.
How was Kimberley TAFE to finish off the units?
They were really good, Tony was quite amazing, he helps you out with everything and make it a lot easier than the other places I studied at – TAFE down in Perth was a bit different they just left you alone and let you sort it out.
Now that you’re moving on, we’re looking at putting another apprentice on in the new year, will you be stepping up to help them on their journey?
Yes I’d love to help a trainee or apprentice, it’d be great to get a young fella in or girl, I met some of the cert 2 trainees at TAFE and they’d be good to start here.
